The Markay Cultural Arts
Center is operated by the Southern Hills Arts Council and is
located at 269 East Main Street in Jackson. Currently, the 1930
Art Deco movie theatre is under renovation and when completed,
will be able to stage various performances and concerts.
One of their major
features of the year is the Foothills Art Festival to be held
in October this year at the Canter's Cave 4-H Camp, just off
of U. S. 35 west of Jackson. It will include visual arts, live
music and youth arts activities. They also conduct free children's
summer art classes in Jackson and Wellston, have poetry readings
the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m., and a knitting circle
the first and third Monday of each month, also at 7 p.m.
The Markay Cultural
Arts Center can be reached by telephone at 740-286-6355 or by

The gallery schedule
for this year is one of variety and displaying excellent talent.
The opening day of each exhibit is highlighted by a Meet The
Artist reception at 7 p.m. The gallery hours are Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday from 2-5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday
from 1-3 p.m.
